WAYNE CITY, Ill. – Tanner Thorson’s second place in Friday’s Jason Leffler Memorial at Wayne County Speedway helped him secure the National Midget Driver of the Year Championship for the second straight year.

Thorson becomes the seventh repeat champion in the 18-year history of the National Midget Driver of the Year. Thorson also joins Aaron Fike (2002-03), Brad Kuhn (2005-06), Bryan Clauson (2009-2011) and Christopher Bell (2013-14) with consecutive titles.

GRANITE CITY, Ill. - For the second consecutive year, the “Gold Crown Midget Nationals” became the “Tanner Thorson Show” at Tri-City Speedway.

The 20-year-old Minden, Nevada native held off hard-charging teammate Carson Macedo after a late-race restart to win his fifth “Gold Crown” feature in a row dating back to the 2015 event.

VENTURA, Calif. – Tanner Thorson left the Turkey Night Grand Prix at Ventura Raceway on Thursday evening a happy man after claiming his first USAC National Midget Series title.

Thorson entered the race with a slim nine-point lead, but left the track Thursday with an 18-point advantage over Keith Kunz Motorsports teammate Spencer Bayston to claim the championship.
